Dr. Desmoulin-Kherat named 2024 Superintendent of the Year
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, superintendent of Peoria SD #150, has been named the 2025 Illinois Superintendent of the Year by the Illinois Association of School Administrators. This prestigious award recognizes her innovative leadership in serving a diverse student population and her commitment to academic achievement, student preparation for the future, and social-emotional support. Under her guidance, Peoria SD #150 has pioneered unique initiatives, including alleviating teacher shortage through international recruitment and improving teacher retention. She has also expanded comprehensive supports for students, enhanced post-secondary success, and achieved progress in key academic metrics. Notably, graduation rates have increased from 65% to 80%, and dropout rates have decreased from 7% to 3%. The district has also expanded academic opportunities with enhanced International Baccalaureate and AP programs. Dr. Kherat led an $11 million renovation of Peoria Stadium and implemented a districtwide cell phone ban. She has also transitioned the district to an innovative yearlong modified calendar. This award is a testament to Dr. Kherat’s exceptional leadership and dedication to our students, staff, and community. We are incredibly fortunate to have her at the helm fostering an environment where every student has opportunities to thrive.
